Netflix Original Review: Death Note (2017)

Plot: A high school student is given the power to kill anyone and in a manner he so chooses. All he needs to do is write the name of the person in the Death Note and how the person dies. Could have been boring except, Light, the protagonist, is more imaginative than most. He uses the power to create a God by watching global news and punishing evil doers around the world. This is where things start to get interesting. Then, a detective from Japan with Sherlock-like abilities, starts to piece things together.  This is like Lex Luthor taking on Superman but better. You'll find yourself confused who you should be rooting for.

Strength: The characters, pacing and twists and superb.

Recommendation: Must-watch even for those who are not familiar with the anime or manga version like me.

Netflix Review: Bird Box (2018)

Plot: If you see it, you die. It's like three days of darkness, except it's not just three days and it's only dark because you have to keep  your eyes closed or covered when you go out of the house.

Strength: The concept is unique. It's a great ride. The rules are  so simple and requires little imagination you can easily put yourself in the shoes of the heroes. The genius is  in its simplicity.  There's also enough surprises to keep things exciting.

Recommendation: It's worth watching. It's a great ride but that's about it really. There's nothing much to talk about after. It won't tug your heart and it's not going to make you think. It's a thriller which sets you to expect it to be more but it really isn't. So watch it and enjoy the ride and don't expect anything more.

Netflix Series, Kingdom, Review

Plot: Hard to describe without giving away too much but at the center of it is politics not survival.

Strength: It's way better than Walking Dead. The zombies are fast like in World War Z. The heroes are stronger. The villains are badder, The stakes are higher. Its about saving the Kingdom not just surviving. In terms of quality It does not have the made-for-TV feel of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed. It's closer to Game of Thrones and comparable to movies like Train to Busan and World War Z.

Recommendation: Must watch for Zombie fans.

Extraction (2020), Netflix Original, Movie Review

Plot: It's a rescue operation. That's it.

Strength: It's action-packed. Tyler fights like Jason Bourne and shoots like John Wick.

Recommendation: If you like Jason Bourne and John Wick, or Steven Seagal in the early 90s, this movie is highly recommended. It's definitely theater quality nowhere close to direct-to-videos and martial arts B movies (like Steven Seagal's direct-to-videos later in his career).
